Upper Story Tour
 

Back in 2003, the Economic Restructuring Committee found a great way to show off second story redevelopment progress, help recently rehabilitated loft apartments get recognition, and highlight properties available for revitalization...

...with the Upper Story Tour. The event featured several sites within walking distance and in varying levels of development (from not started to completely finished).

Attendance was over 250, so the event was held again in 2004 and 2005. Each year, new tenants, businesses, or property owners get inspired to get involved with downtown revitalization, in part because of the dramatic before and after views of properties featured on the Upper Story Tour.

Two recently completed loft apartments that were listed on the Tour have won State Awards in Excellence for the outstanding quality demonstrated in the rehabilitation of unused space into some of Jacksonville's finest residential living areas.

 

The success of this educational event has contributed greatly to the more than $10 million in reinvestment within the Jacksonville Main Street District since 1999, by giving inspiration and ideas as to what great things can be accomplished...

 

...and how old buildings can find new uses! While this event took a hiatis in 2006, the committee looks to modify the Upper Story Tour to include available first floor space. Watch for a new available properties open house tour in 2007!
